Hello! Thank you for supporting the DFSC and the Northland Figure Skating Competition. Below is everything you need to know about volunteering for Northland. We use Sign-up.com to organize our volunteers and track completed hours. BEFORE THE EVENT
SafeSport training and background checks are required for volunteers signing up to be event or ice monitors. Start the training at https://safesporttrained.org/ and remember to complete the background check once your training is complete. It is common for high school sports, robotics, bands, etc. across the county to require SafeSport to be completed by parents or guardians to ensure the safety of our kids. DURING THE EVENT
We are the second largest non-qualifying competition in the United States with over 500 competitions coming from around the US and Canada. We want to give these athletes an amazing experience and keep things on time. For this reason please do not leave your post until your replacement person arrives. If your replacement is not on time, call the section lead listed in the binder at each station OR in each “Spot” description on Sign-up.com. You can also call the Volunteer Chair, Lea.
When you arrive at your “Spot,” please check in with the chair leads at the time of each position. They will “check you in” to track your hours to be submitted to the DFSC Board at the February Board Meeting to ensure you get credit for volunteering. What is each “Spot” like?
Event Monitor – Check in skaters on the event list, line them up in order, and open the rink door to let them on & off the ice. Help the announcer if they need a pronunciation of a name.
Announcer – Announce the name & club of the next skater. Ask the event monitor for pronunciations if needed.
Music – Double-click the next song.
Runner – You’re a ninja. Quietly take results from the Judge Assistant to the accountant, awards, registration, etc. Do not talk to judges and accountants.
Registration Desk – Search for a skater’s name, mark them arrived, and hand them their credentials. Keep the hospitality room stocked.
Awards – Hand out the awards to winners on the lists provided by the Runners.
Chauffeur- Pick up/drop off judges at DLH
Flowers – Sell flowers and help the Awards table if they need it.
